Dragon*Con 2008 – Monday morning all the talk was about the 1st Annual Mad Scientists' Ball and ARCATTACK - The Singing Tesla Coils.
Were you there last year? If not, talk to anyone who partied with us at the 1st Annual Mad Scientists' Ball – they'll tell you it rocked! It was ELECTRIC!!! I mean that literally. You've never seen anything like this before. It's mad! It's science! And it was a ball!! lol Sooo, we're going to do it again.
We did have one big problem last year – we surprised ourselves and TPTB on how popular geeks had become. So popular, in fact, we didn't have enough room. The line to get in was so long the hotel made us clear the room at each break and let the next group standing in line in. That is not going to happen in 2009; we asked for a larger room for this year and Dragon*Con listened. We've been given a larger room – a much larger room. I'm psyched to be able to tell you all that the The 2nd Annual Mad Scientists' Ball will be in the Hyatt Regency VI & VII. You all know that room; last year it was the double ballroom right next door to us where the Pirate Ball was held. Well, it's ours now.
We are, of couse, bringing back ARCATTACK. What's a Mad Scientists' Ball without wild, geeky science entertainment? We're also not stupid and are the first to admit that although the blinkies, glow bracelets, LN2 ice cream and Suzie the Floosie in full floosie regala were definitely a lot of fun, it was ARCATTACK that drew the crowds. The rest was just frosting on the cake.
ARCATTACK has been making a name for themselves even apart from Dragon*Con. Powers That Be from ChattaCon saw/heard them in 2008 and invited them to their convention earlier this year. They were huge hit but we would expect nothing else. Being from Texas, ARCATTACK was invited to SXSW in Austin and singing tesla coils let loose without a ceiling is, well, electric! ARCATTACK has done other various shows and conventions but the big news is their European Tour! Hot Stuff. Fortunately, we knew them when they were just a couple of geeks with a cool idea and they are happy to come help us make the 2nd Annual Mad Scientists' Ball bigger, wilder and crazier than the 1st.
Speaking of craziness . . . jonnyX decided to add even more the 2nd Annual Mad Scientists' Ball; and I do mean craziness!! Tesla coils are a blast but what a bummer when they have to take those breaks to let the coils cool off. We needed some other type of geeky entertainment to carry us through. After disuading jonnyX from offering his cattle prode to be used for a $1 a zap, he cast his mind back to the craziest event he has taken part in while at a convention. Hang on People; The Church of the SubGenius is making an entrance! The Reverand Ivan Stang and his faithful Preistess, Suzie the Floozie will walk amongst you and 'Save' what's left of your soul. The winner of the Science Track's 'Who Wants to Be a Super Villan?' will also make an appearance and most likely be looking to recruit (or kidnap) minions.
ARCATTACK has made a discovery of their own and are briging them along to open the show. One Eyed Doll has been making new fans all across the country but are based out of Austin, TX. Check them out and you'll see they'll fit right in with the madness.
Yes, this year's Mad Scientists' Ball will again be the Dragon*Con event that you SHOULD NOT MISS! As we did last year, we strongly encourage the wearing of any and all mad scientist, evil genius, steampunk, super villan, or geek apparel and paraphinalia. If the Space and Science Tracks' minions recognize you as one of the above; the goodies mentioned above shall be bestowed upon you.

See You All There!
